The Student Consulting Firm is a group of students dedicated to helping teachers and students work together to transform the education system one small change at a time. The goal of the firm is to solve small problems within classrooms, brought to our attention by teachers. Through candid talk, research, interviews, and observations, student consultants will collaborate with teachers in order to offer recommendations. The process is designed to bring students and teachers together to make school a more engaging environment for everyone.
Process
Request: Teachers fill out an official request that states the basics of the problem and/or a question they want answered. Click HERE for form.
Meeting: An initial meeting will be set up with the teacher and students assigned to that project. The goal of the meeting is to candidly discuss the question, problem, obstacle, or idea that the teachers wants help with and to establish some goals and guidelines for the next steps.
Observation/Interviews: The student consultants will observe and interview students in order to gather information and student perspective. This may inform research needs and next steps. It is important to do one or the other as student voice adds an important dimension to any recommendations, and will ensure that potential solutions are in line with what both the students and the teachers need.
Research/Outreach/Brainstorm: Through research, interviews, and other outreach, consultants will generate resources, ideas, suggestions, and evidence-based solutions.
Suggest/Solve: The consultants will then write out a detailed list of suggestions with evidence as to why and how their ideas would work. They will then meet with the teacher to present their findings.
Follow Up: After a few weeks, the consultants will have a short follow-up meeting to talk about how the new ideas are going and if the teacher is seeing improvement.
